Cable set to go into operation in early 2019 providing power exchange between the two nations
The construction of a £600million subsea power cable connecting the UK to Belgium has been completed, with transmission set to go live in early 2019.
The Nemo Link project provides a connection between Kent and Herdersbrug in northern Belgium over a distance of 80 miles and will allow the transmission of 1,000MW of electricity, enough to power one million homes.
The Nemo link is one of a number of similar projects planned by the UK's National Grid, with a further £2billion set to be invested in additional power cables connecting to Europe.
